Fanny Chadwicks has been featured on my favorite Canadian food show; "You Gotta Eat Here", making it all the more of a requirement for me to visit this comfort kitchen. However, the food has recently adapted from its previous broadcasting since Fanny Chadwicks recently renovated themselves, changing not only their name (Now called "Chadwicks") but also there menu and style. They still deliver the comfort food that satisfies those palatable pleasures and menu items so "stick to your ribs" it leaves you thinking about it days after. The menu is set up in such a way now that offers proteins (mains) and sides. By all means I would certainly revisit Chadwicks alone in the future, but this place is best experienced with a friend, a date, or a party. The menu favors a family style dinning experience, meaning that you order 2 or more things and the table goes about sharing the food. It's the best way to try the menu that will certainly have you split between at least two mouth watering items they describe. The food bordered a rocket ship and skyrocketed past my expectations. My taste buds were re-stimulated with every new morsel that entered my mouth. Deep fried, saucy, and fatty meats sent my tongue into a vortex of flavor, unsure at times if it was still eating foods from this reality. We started with the Smoked Brisket Nachos. Now I've never had brisket before, so this was a big bonus. There chips were crispy and perfectly salty and fried in house, with everything every topping in proportion to compliment the other like a symphony of flavors. The Brisket was tender with great chew, smokey punches releasing with each bite, and uniting with the beans, quac, tomatoes, cheese and chips presenting you with a combination of flavors you've never had before. Lost in your own thoughts of what life had been up till this very moment, you are interrupted by the flavors sailing off and you quickly need to re-administer another stacked nacho into your face hole before you forget what happiness tastes like. The nachos were only the begging tho. Fried chicken, Mole Ribs, Pulled Pork, Poutine, and Bacon Chicharron were platted all at once in front of us. The fried chicken had this thick outer crust on it that had a ridiculous crackle for the soft, tender meat that laid within. The chicken was so good, and not greasy at all. However, that was probably the only thing I wish there was more of . Maybe that sounds gross, but I'm not ashamed to say I like fried chicken for what it is. Battered, crispy, meaty goodness in oil. This fried chicken was almost like a VERY VERY well done oven baked chicken. Still absolutely delicious. The mole ribs were just....just not even meat. They came out on these Broncasaurus bones and the meat basically dripping on. I picked the bone up for the meat to literally slid off...this is as "fall off the bone" as it gets. The Mole sauce was a perfect compliment to the beyond tender ribs. They only might have been too tender dare I say. They were like a meat butter, no chewing only slurping was required for these ribs. There was both good and bad things to say about that aspect. Would I eat them again? YESS 100%. The pulled pork was spot on tender. Not as tender as the ribs (thankfully) but just enough to still bite into the meat effortlessly but still be able to chew and appreciate the spices and flavors coming out of it with each new fiber broken down by your molars. We got some corn tortillas on the side to eat the pork with, and some Pico and cheese to pair with it just too it there. Where? I don't even know...but I want to go back. The Bacon Chicharron... okay. This was deep fried pork belly chunks. I have seen this many times on TV but never have had to chance to try it and it is everything you imagine it would be. It's such a mouth pleasure that you can't help but take it slow and let it's flavor nessle onto ever papillae on the surface of your tongue, letting it reach all the way to the back, where you brace a tear before swallowing, knowing that you will never have another piece like that again in a long time. This is bacon that you embrace and remember. Like that one night stand you knew was a little wild and wrong but will always think about trying it again even against your better judgment. This bacon was incredible... Chadwicks delivered one of the best dining experiences I've ever had and I am so pleased to have also shared it with such special people on such a special day (My family on my mother's birthday).
