Welcome one and all to yet another fancy fixing of your flexing, feasting, photogenic fool accompanied by these two mischief makers Kassandra Lipman and Steph Santos. This food flight is brought to you by Mississauga own Union Social Eatery. This was a location that had me on the fence to start because of its more than one locations lowers the genuineness of a joint in my opinion. But where there is food, there is me. To start the dining off right we went with the Nachos appetizer. They had plenty of other app's to choose from that all sounded very enticing. Would have loved to try the Smoky Baja Chicken Dip or the Social Dragon Roll. But I did call them mischief makers after all. Picky eaters ;) (Just kidding gurls). Nachos are always a fan favorite and I'm their biggest fan yet! The plate however only seemed big enough for one. The nachos were very good, but just way too simple and bleakly built. There seemed to be but one layer of cheese and a scarcity of toppings. The amount of raw chips I ate was a disappointment and I found myself using more of the salsa and sour cream because of so. Normally I don't use any sides for nachos. There was also like a horrible lack of nachos of the plate too. Almost like they replaced half the nachos for a patch of lettuce on top the nachos. Maybe nachos aren't there thing...for what its worth tho, there salsa was very good! On to the main! Hungry for the biggest and/or best the place has to offer. Here at Union Social that seemed to be the Cease and Desist burger! The breakdown of this monumental, meat mastery is a house made burger, braised short ribs, smoked cheddar and their house made BBQ sauce. Don't let the picture fool you tho, although the burger was pretty impressive in size to start, I figured it still could go a little further; this is however the BEAST and FEAST page. So I had to order a side of their popular "Almond Crusted Chicken Tenders" and nestle that nut crusted nibble to turn this burger into a Deity! The burger itself was perfectly cooked (for a well burger that is). I'll say that ever since I've had my burgers from Burger priest and Holy Chucks, burger meat from any other place has never compared...Its even hard to trust restaurant burgers I find. Generally you're paying too much for a bland, over cooked burger that's only hope of passing for any kind of flavorful bolus is the ketchup and mayo that coasters over top the meat. In this case, the meat was actually very well done. Teeth cut through the meat with ease and chewed nicely. A big sized patty too which is always nice to receive generous portions. Flavor of the meat was much more of a nod towards the tame taste of restaurant burgers. Yet another restaurant that over complicates their burger by making the patty more than it needs to be (beef and salt. Done!). The braised short ribs on top of the burger was a good call cause it gave that extra sauciness to the burger! Really good with the smoked cheddar too which I only really noticed at the end of my burger. The robust smokiness of the cheese can be kind of lost at points from the flavor of the short ribs, but once it pokes its head in, you really start to appreciate it all the more in the burger. Their House made BBQ sauce was done perfectly! They replicated BBQ sauce. Very on point. Tasted just like its suppose too! And you'll never guess what their tomato and lettuce resembled! From this, I'm saying that the sauce was nothing special, but a good sauce still cause who doesn't like BBQ? The chicken tenders we're honestly a little underwhelming. I was hoping for a little bit more. I'll say I've had better chicken fingers from a box. Maybe it's because I wasn't eating them with plum sauce while watching "What's New Scooby-Doo" during my lunch break? But I shouldn't let my childhood nostalgia interfere with my opinion. The meat itself was juicy and tender, but a little thin in contrast to the thick crust it had. So there was certainly lots of Ketchup dipping for these. The almond's provided a slight sweetness to the tender, but...it seems like it was yet another over-hyped menu item for purely profit pocketers. The Parmesan Truffle Fries? Man I really did go all out this time. but when you get their best burger, don't you also want their best fries? Gotta have both the nick and the nack, no? The fries were very good but frankly I couldn't tell you if their was truffle oil on those things or not. To identify truffle oil on these fries would be like asking to taste the difference between a red and blue M&M. Maybe it was because the rosemary over powered the fries so much there was no chance for that terse truffle taste. Non-the-less these jazzed up fries were certainly better than getting regular fries as a side. Cheese and extra herb is one way to fancy up French fries and one that's worth the extra charge too. Overall the dinning experience was a delight The food was very good but a fancy penny that conflicts my financial predicaments being a student and all. Great place i'd say to take people for casual dining with a menu that tries to be unique and scantily succeeds. I only wish we got dessert. I don't think a Mars Bar Brownie can be done poorly any where!
