Moo Frites is a hole in the wall of Kenzington market without looking too much like one. Easily missed if you aren't looking for it since the hyperactivity of the market and all the other markets offerings fighting for attention. This little shop flatters french fries with their thick cut appraoch. Certainly you will not find fries of these cuts anywhere else because these are not French fries. These are "Frites". These frites are cut like 2 by 4's and are offered in a variety of worldly inspired flavor's like Japan, Britian and Canada The canadian option is the only option at Moo Frities that offers that comoftable Poutine option most of the world knows with the rich gravy and acoustic cheese curdz. Thats only 1 poutine option they offer, but the rest replace the gravy with their house made mayo based or Ketchup based sauces. The creativity of their frites is in the sauces, offering over 20 different flavors that include their special "Frite Sauce", "Chipotle Mayo", Parmesian Peppercorn", and "Juppie" (Curry Mayo). Outside of their 20+ flavorful sauces, they have on their menu a couple speciality frites that come with adidtional toppings also. On this list was their "Kimchi Frites". This was the first time I had Kimchi outside of my own homemade variety. Kimchi isn't my absolute favourite thing but I do like the spicy pungentness it delivers. Since these are the Frites they are most known for, I figured I had to go with the house special. I ordered a regular size, and when delivered to me seemed to resemble an idea "regular" portion size...if they didn't level off the fries with the box top. For this particular dish, fries/frites are ment to be served as a moutine peak with ends poking up out of the box and even some hanging off the side. Considering the price for these fries, I feel the portions could have been bigger. These regualr order was 7$ and some change. It was more expensive than their other options which makes sense. Kimchi is a long process of making, so you are paying for the time and labour of that. But there still could have been that "heaping" visual presented to make it seem more visually worth it. Now lets start talking about flavors. The kimchi was spicy and texturally pleasing with the frites. Having a little bit of crunch from the cabbage brings another element to the dish. It was spicy but not hot, and the spice was carried off with the mayo based sauce smothered all over it. The frites themselves were some of the best fries ive ever had. The thickness of the frite gives it more potato appeal, where as french fries can sometimes taste too oily because of their thinness. These developed a nice outter crispiness with a pillowy soft potato center. And they were salted PERFECTLY! I was so happy with the frites themselves I would have enjoyed an order of them just as they are. Moo frites has lots of reasons for me to return back too. The frites are among some of the best fries i've ever had, and the sauces I didn't get to try are still taunting me. However the fries in my opinion are heavily over-priced which would be a reason for me not returning as frequently or as soon as I would like. Perhaps if Moo Frites had gift cards, I would have better luck eating there again real soon. That would be the true gift of gluttony . ·
