The Stockyards is a long anticipated Triple D find on this list! There have been many occasions I've planned a trip to this spot, but I always saved it so that I could be there at a time that there Chicken and Waffles were available (Only till 3pm)! Such a ludicrous time to not offer Chicken and Waffles, but it must have something to do with its popularity. Or...a waffle iron becomes more complicated to operate after 3 in the 6. In the end I realized there would never be a time I would be able to manage this time strain and the rest of the menu would still be a prevailing participation in my food adventures. AND IT WAS! The first thing you see is a little side of Coleslaw that was cursed by a warlock and had the soul ringed out of it. That may be a stretch of the truth but really this Coleslaw was like something you find in the back of the fridge that was left from previous restaurant owners. It's flavor was lifeless like its appearance and even odd that it was served to us before our actual meal. Even if it didn't taste any better, It would have been more appropriate to serve with the dish as a side, as opposed to this "appetizer" undertaking. Either way that didn't damper the mood or the meal in the slightest. Soon enough the mains arrived as it wasn't very busy when we arrived at around 4pm. I got the "Bis-Mac"; their version of the "Big-Mac" essentially. Double patty. Double cheese. Double Bread....Wait...isn't the big mac signature for its middle bun? Or maybe it was the fact that the burger had their interpretation of the Mac Sauce on it too. Regardless, i'd take this burger over a Big-Mac any day! The patties were cooked to a perfect medium rare, which is the secret to a good burger everyone! Let that be known! Medium rare, 100% beef patties wit ha little salt on a flat top. Its silly how simple the meat needs to be done in order to make it so right. However this time the patties were also seared in mustard giving the burger a distinctness in infused flavor! Pickles and cheese and that was it.No lettuce or Tomato and not missed at all either. Burger juices dripping down your arm causing a scene of panic as you contemplate licking the juices before they pass your elbow or if you would waste such precious burger nectar on a napkin. I knew I went with the right person to this place. Cause as we scanned the menu, I awkwardly presented the idea of each of us getting our own dish and than we splitting a Fried Chicken dinner (4 piece). Trevor Michael Miller is such a boss because he responded with "I was just about to suggest that too". Awesome to get my two favorite proteins in one cheat day! So we got the fired chicken which came with fries too, The fries were good. Perfectly seasoned, which is harder to find than you think now and days I feel, The fried chicken was freshly fried in front of us to order. Should have been obviously known NOT to bite into a piece the second it landed in front of us as the hot greasy skin welded itself to the top of my mouth, burning me in the processes. However the pain was shortly expressed as I was spellbound by the taste of the chicken and continued to bite and suck on the skin, meat and bones, It was juicy throughout and flavorful all the way through. The crunch of the skin was on point and the meat was perfectly tender! Just perhaps I wish the skin was seasoned a bit more, but maybe I'm just snobbish when it comes to salt! Stockyards is known for their chicken, but there burger was the highlight for me! Go see for yourself, preferably before 3, and get your hands on their Chicken and Waffles; and than rub it in my face.
