Not many places do I favor going to twice. After all, as a foodie I take myself to be an explorer of food. The Christopher Columbus of flavors, venturing to the palatable unknowns. However once and a while a place comes along that stands out so much to me that I feel the obligation to return back and feast again on the impressive menu that stood out to me so much before the first time. More food to try. More to discuss! So let’s start of the first round-about-review for Chadwick’s!
If you recall from the first review, my main take home points for Chadwicks was the service, the dining experience and the food (for the most part). Although there were some food items that didn’t strike me as much as others, the dining experience was exquisite and the service was delightful. Family style ordering gives you interaction with the table and lets you tickle your taste buds with a little bit of everything. The fam ordered a feast again, but and almost enough to have nearly tried everything at Chadwicks at least once. The line up included their Sausage of the Week, the Lonely Burger, their daily special poutine, and their Mexican Corn; along with the familiar Way Southern Fried Chicken and Cochinita (Pulled pork) we had last time too. We also felt the need to order the nachos again, cause they were a fam favourite last time too. Probably the best nacho's I have had so far.
The experience was just like it was last time! Warming environment, charming staff, along with great food. The poutine was the eye appeaser this time around with its taste twisting addition of pomegranate (along with other refinements) to it. It provided a great textural addition, along with a bitter sweetness to the salty colonization of the curdz, gravy and fries for Poutine. Many times with quality, quantity is compromised, but for Chadwick's Poutine I still felt they delivered a healthy serving of Poutine.
The Sausage of the Week I believe was a boar sausage, but I could be wrong on that. It came out very red on the inside from the overhaul of what I believe to be paprika, considering it wasn’t too hot. The meat I felt was also a little on the grittier side, and didn’t have much too offer on the flavor. It was to me one of the items that fell short on the table, but it's also an item that revamped weekly!
The Lonely Burger also didn’t have too much going on for me. Considering my history on this blog, my past encounters with burgers have been on the “belly busting” side more than anything. I would say to me the burger was smaller than expected and although had good taste to it, I didn’t find it stood out to me like some of their other menu items. There signature 3 a.m sauce on the burger is a Chipotle Mayo based sauce which was my favorite thing about the burger. This you can luckily order on the side too and add it to anything.
The Mexican corn was a big highlight in this review too. The corn had flavors in it that was ripple through your mouth as you gnawed through the cob. Their Mexican corn changed my corn game entirely. Since trying it with the mayo spread, salty queso fesco, cilantro and onions I haven't gone back. Its now gotta be my favorite way to enjoy corn now. Mayo on corn may not be for everyone, but for the adventurous ones out there; the ones ordering the PB burger, or the bacon sundaes, I think you’ll get a kick out of this.
The pulled pork was just the same as before. The chicken performed a bit better this time than before to my delightful surprise. They even served it in a Chinese take-out box which was fun. It had picked up a bit more of an aesthetic shine from the oil and more flavorful because of it. I like my chicken not dripping in oil, but I expect it to still be what it is. Was definitely an improvement from the last time and just comes to show you that any kitchen outside of fast food or franchises is going to serve you up something unique each time. Things aren’t being weighted, portioned or served to be standard every time. There’s room for ambiguity, which gives these kitchens their prosperity.
An outstanding experience once again for Chadwicks. Two for two, which has given me the idea for a new addition to my blog. Now introducing the MVPs (Most Valuable Plates) page! This page will highlight my most favorite food joints that I feel deserve a second go! Considering i'm all about the new and different, mentioning a place that I would consider going back too a second time should say something about it.
