Nothing challenges you to be messier and more hands on with your food than the chicken wing. The saucy bird bones have flapped their way right into the hearts of many. I even know vegetarians who have said its one of the things they miss most. I freaking love chicken. I eat it everyday and will continue unimportant too for the rest of my existence probably. My life-style has conveyed me to appreciate and enjoy the leaner white meat on the daily, but every once and a while, I like to level things out with some bird limbs. The breast is the best but the wings are the things that I can scarf down in uncontrollable numbers. A messy, saucy endeavor between you and an assortment of drumsticks and wings fried crispy and seductively sauced in a variety of flavors. There are so many options, everyone has a favorite. Sweet, heat and neat, everyone has a go-to fix. But while the wings have been tinkered and tossed in a variety of sauce, the wing has been left unchanged really. The Wingery has this concern addressed.

XL sized chicken wings generously breaded and fried to crispy perfection. I’ve never heard a wing pop and crackle so much as I bit into it as these. I used to order my wings sauced, but was recently shown a better way by a friend to order your wings dry with the sauce on the side. This way you can sauce them to your own pace and not be worrying that your last couple wings at the bottom are going to be soggy and lack that charismatic crunch. I’ve been doing this for a while now and know and is the best way I’ve eaten wings. It also allows the wing to shine and let the taste buds appreciate the wing itself and not be biased by any extra notes of salt or sugar from the sauce.

The Wingery’s wings had a lot going on. For one, the wing size was far bigger than any other wings I’ve had from any other location. The batter was super crispy and surprisingly flavorful. It had enough saltiness in the wing itself, I had eaten 2/3rds of the box just dry before using any sauce. Even than I only caved so that I could talk about the sauce in this review. I could have and would have eaten those wings dry otherwise and been perfectly satisfied. But I sauced for the sake of the readers, and boy am I glad I did. Now I’ve come to terms with my terrible tolerance for heat after eating a scotch bonnet one time in the past. I became less ambitious as a heat seeker after that day. Yet out of the 20+ sauces The Wingery had to offer me that evening, I somehow had undertaken their ugly sauce. I suppose that’s what happens when they ask you what sauce you want and you blurt out, “Surprise me”. Well, the ugly sauce wasn’t that bad. It was actually really fucking good. It had enough heat for me to handle but man it had flavor more than anything. Would definitely recommend it if you aren’t totally incapable of handling some heat.

Certainly some of the better wings I have ever had. Far better quality than any “wing specialized franchise” such as Buffalo Wild Wings or Wild Wings is serving up. At 11.99/lb its probably more expensive than wing wranglers would like. Not to mention, the wing is usually a secondary aspect the main purpose of going out to the bar and watching a sports game, or ordering them as a side item when to your pizza meal deal. How often do you go out for wings when there isn’t a Half Price Weekday Special? All things considered, the attitude towards eating wings is probably more so about timing and the communal style, making the excellence of the wing irrelevant… However if the situation is flipped and wing quality is what your event needs than I promise you you’ll find wicked wings at The Wingery.
