This review is brought to you buy a friend of mine! A fellow foodie friend whose shown interest in the blog, and is devoted to stacking up plates both inside and outside the gym. I honourable lay this week's review to him! Enjoy the review by Elliot "Deep and Delicious" Perkins.

I’d like to start off by thanking Tyler for giving me the opportunity to write about a restaurant that holds a very special place in my heart – STACK. Stack Restaurant is located at Yonge and Lawrence in Toronto, ON. Being a resident of North York I generally dread having to trek anywhere in the direction of downtown Toronto. I believe Toronto is actually a giant experiment to see how much traffic can fit into one city. However there are a few select locations that are worth the travel, one being Stack Restaurant. If you ever feel the need to eat so much meat you start sweating BBQ, Stack is the place to be.

My friends and I have started a yearly tradition, where after the last Friday of classes before the Christmas holidays we head to Stack. Both times we have had great service and even better food. All of the beers on tap are craft beers as well, so you can wash the meat down with a local brewed crisp Pilsner.

The menu includes most of your staples for any BBQ joint, Brisket, Pulled Pork, Chicken, Ribs. Those are all well and good to order individually, but that’s not why I’m here. What truly makes Stack special is their Ultimate Platter. Not sure what you want to order? Just get the ultimate platter, it has everything you need. The Ultimate Platter has on it a full rack of ribs, a quarter chicken, big wads of pulled pork, brisket, Montreal Smoked meat, and a mountain of fries that roughly resembles K2. Adding fresh buns, coleslaw, beans and mac & cheese on the side makes this Ultimate Platter capable of feeding a small army. The menu claims that the platter feeds 3-5, or one person if you know what you’re about. Between 3 big guys we managed to finish the platter, without feeling the remotest bit not-full. The Ultimate Platter runs $75, a perfectly reasonable price to split between three people.

The ribs were cooked to absolute perfection, and the pulled pork and brisket were so tender you hardly had to chew! (kinda like a duck swallowing a fish) As one of my friends said; “the chicken is the least impressive part of the platter, but is still 10x better than any chicken I have ever cooked for myself”. The mac and cheese was definitely my favourite side (apparently they’ll put pulled pork in it as a separate entrée, how nuts is that?) hell even the coleslaw was good, despite still technically being a vegetable!

I’ve seen the servers leaving the kitchen with some bomb lookin’ tacos and burgers, however I haven’t had the opportunity to try them. Judging by how well they cook literally everything else, I can only assume that the burgers and tacos hold up. So if you ever go visit Stack and don’t order the Ultimate Platter for whatever reason (head trauma?) try ‘em out and let us know.

Every time I’ve been to Stack, the owner of the restaurant has come out to our table to chat and see how the food is. I am a simple man, and I appreciate this in a business owner. It always feels good supporting businesses owned and operated by decent fellows!

There is a special room in hell for people who don’t like burger challenges, the same room as bike thieves and people who talk during movies. Stack, naturally being the best place ever, has an enticing challenge that Tyler would choke-slam me for if I didn’t mention it. I didn’t see this on the menu, however through talking to the owner I learned of its existence. They will give you 30 minutes to eat 2 burgers (1lb of beef on each), 1lb of fries and a milkshake. If you succeed you get it for free. Remember what Ghandi said: “Free burgers are the best burgers!”

Overall, Stack Restaurant is one of my favourite restaurants I’ve been to since my arrival in Toronto. I don’t go often, but I have never been disappointed by the food quality or quantity!
