It’s a blissful feeling seeing the engagement people have shown me with this blog and food adventures. I am constantly having suggestions being thrown at me by my friends and peers who want to take part in the Beast and Feast adventures and help grow my blog. It always puts a big smile of my face to know that this blog, in some way, impacts other people. As well as gives a great excuse to go out with people and shar ein a memory. This weeks review was another one of those cases, as some school friends knew I had been waiting for the right time to hit up Sneaky Dee's. Given we're in the midst of our exams period right now, they set up a time to escape the books and hit up some nachos with a Gran titulo.

Social media sites/threads like “Blog TO” and “Best of Toronto” have done an excellent job at spitting out where the best of what is in Toronto. They have been a big resource when I research and plan my food outings. These sources will guide you towards the “Best of…” anything in Toronto. Sushi, beaver tails, sweet potato fries, brisket, cupcakes, bagels, you name it. Chances are they’ll have a top 10 list of anything you’re in the mood for, including Nachos. No matter your search site though, you’re guaranteed to see Sneaky Dee’s as number 1 for the Best Nachos in Toronto. Hell, you only need to type in “Toronto Nachos” on Google, and it directs you to Sneaky Dee’s address. It’s clear from my stand point, that Sneaky Dee’s is ruling Toronto’s nacho game. And its a game i want to taco bout.

"Big Bite Mike"
I’m normally not going out of my way for nachos, unlike other foods I like to analyse more intensively to find the BEST; like fried chicken, waffles, or mac and cheese to name a few. Although I have had my encounter with some extremely good nacho in the past at Chadwick’s. Those were at the top of my very small list of best nachos. Until now...Sorry Chadwick’s, but you can’t argue with the crowd. Sneaky Dee’s has the best Nachos I’ve ever had.

"Rich-erché"
But like I said I haven’t experienced a large number of exceptional nachos in my travels. For one, I haven’t gone out hunting them down, and two the nachos I HAVE eaten were only sufficient enough to be enjoyed at a bar night event. Not many times have nachos stood out enough to me to fell the need to talk about them. Having experienced the item of interest at Sneaky Dee’s, I believe I have encountered the gold standard of nacho nobility. Nachos aren’t hard to make, but it’s the finesse behind their execution of the nachos that renders the final product so distinct and enjoyable. The chips they use were big and structurally flawless. No magnitude of stacked toppings was too great for a single chip. At one point, I had at least a 4:1 ratio of topping to chip arrangement travelling over my lap, without even the slightest occurrence of tortilla chipage. Did you know I also like to live life dangerously?

" It's okay Nat, Mexican food is only to be feared after"
The Nachos we ordered were the Death from Above Nachos and the Kings Crown. Both were perfectly paved with cheese that offered picture perfect cheese pulls with every grab. The Death From Above is named so due to the Habaneros that garnish the heap of chips, cheese and cream (sour cream that is), but honestly they were not that hot for whatever reason. My past experiences with habaneros before involved an hour-long bathroom faucet flushing. Its been enough of a traumatic moment in my past to asked for them on the side. One of the most compelling components to the plate of nachos were the long slices of avocado arrayed over the platter. Crunching down on a nacho with a full avocado slide on it was something so satisfying and makes me wish I could have every bite like that. Despite the nachos being so well executed, the pulled pork it came with almost stole the show. It was incredibly flavourful and alone was so delicious…but pairing it with the nachos sealed the deal for me as being the best nachos I’ve ever had. They have plenty of nacho varieties to choose from that range from 15-24$. Proteins being the bulk of the extra expenses on that. Plus tons of mexican specialities like enchiladas, tacos, burritos, fajitas, platters and even an all day breakfast!
I couldn’t pull my attention away from my own plate of nachos to give the Kings Crown a chance to try. But it looked equally as blessed with cheese and toppings as ours did. However, it did seem a bit smaller than expected, and after conversing with the table afterwards they confirmed that the nachos were on the smaller side that evening. Perhaps it was because of how busy they were? The restaurant was packed after all, but what else is too be expected on a Saturday night in downtown Toronto? The interior design of Sneaky Dee’s is interesting enough to entice my desire to return. The graphic contributions guests and diners have monumented on the walls of this establishment has brought enormous culture to it. Every inch of the place stands out to you as you eat and converse with your table, and brings life to dining experience.
Sneaky Dee’s portrayed to me what was the image of a perfect bar night out. My contribution to the night out was going with a good crew that could loosen up and share in a couple cheers and laughs during the pressure of exams. Sneaky Dee’s complemented the rest with the exceptional food and compelling atmosphere. However, if the nachos were "small" because it was busy than it's unfortunate that that had to be the case. If a place has reputation to hold, I find they should have more devotion to keep sizes consistent even during a heavy rush. It's like getting yourself a large poutine at Smokes for many years, and than one time you go during a rush and your "large" is skimped and looks like it could fill a medium. Let's keep the standards up with portions people. You don't want to cheap out when serving the BEAST. I won't knock them on size though, cause I was still very pleased with the size of these nachos, and I have experienced first hand what a sad sized nacho platter looks like....Union Social Eatery -_- Budget ✔
